The sacrament of Holy Baptism (Christening) represents the most precious gift your child can receive. They will begin to live and grow in the Spirit of God, as a follower of Jesus Christ and become members of the Christian church. Baptism also celebrates and expresses your hopes and prayers for your child's future life.
With the Godparents and other members of your wider family to help, and the support of the church congregation, you will nurture your child so that he or she will learn to value the gifts of life, to love and care for others and to know and to hold the Christian faith.
To arrange for your child's baptism please contact the Benefice Office who will put you in touch with a minister. Except in emergencies, the minister will need time to ensure that those being baptised, or their parents in the case of infants, receive adequate preparation. The purpose of this preparation is to enable those involved to understand what baptism means and the solemn Christian commitment, from both parents and Godparents, that this entails.
We offer baptism for families currently resident in the Benefice. If you live outside the Benefice we will discuss your circumstances with you. In the same way, if you have a special and exceptional need to arrange the baptism on a date other than our usual baptism service dates we will be pleased to discuss this with you; we do understand the difficulty of getting everyone together at the same time. Please consult us before fixing a date.
