...because if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead,

you will be saved.  Romans 10:9

One of the most important services in the Anglican communion (of which the Church of England is part) is the celebration of the Eucharist, or Holy Communion.  It is also known as The Lord's Supper.

Christians believe that in taking Holy Communion we obey Jesus' commandment 'to do this in remembrance of me' and incorporate his life into ours.

The Eucharist is a remembrance of the Last Supper, the final meal that Jesus Christ shared with his disciples before his arrest, and eventual crucifixion.  The people taking part drink wine and eat bread, usually a wafer, both of which have been consecrated.

These people have usually been 'confirmed' into the Church of England or take communion in their own church.  If you are not used to taking communion, you are welcome to receive a blessing instead.

We use two different sets of Eucharistic services in the Benefice.  The 1662 Book of Common Prayer (BCP) and Common Worship (CW).  BCP is the traditional setting, loved by many, but is sometimes harder to understand, particularly if you are not familiar with church services.  The CW settings are in a more contemporary language.  The are two or three variations within this service, depending upon the time of year, and you will be guided during the service as to which part to follow.

In addition to the regular Sunday services, there is also a BCP Holy Communion service at 10.00am every Tuesday morning at St Michael & All Angels, Spencers Wood.
